TEHRAN – Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah has said that it was Iran’s Supreme Leader who proposed that Lebanon should continue the path of resistance.

Nasrallah made the remarks during the opening speech of the conference on creative thinking and ijtihad (the use of reason to arrive at a knowledge of truth in religious matters) from the viewpoint of the Supreme Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, which was held in Beirut on Monday.

A number of representatives from Iran also attended the conference.

In 1996, everyone was talking about the negotiations between Syria and the Zionist regime and saying that reconciliation was at hand but that the precondition for the implementation of the reconciliation agreement was that the Zionist regime had to retreat to the border before the Six-Day War of 1967, Nasrallah stated.

He was referring to the peace talks between Israel and Syria, which were conducted under U.S. auspices at the Aspen Wye River Conference Center in Maryland in January 1996.

At the time, certain people said that Beirut should agree to the reconciliation, Nasrallah added.

However, Ayatollah Khamenei advised Lebanon to continue the path of resistance, step up its jihadi efforts, and ignore all the rumors in order to achieve victory.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Nasrallah stated that Ayatollah Khamenei’s character is matchless in terms of leadership, piety, fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), and ijtihad.

And efforts should be made to better introduce Ayatollah Khamenei to the world, he added.
