New Anti-Capitalist Party of France: “With the people and workers of Iran!”, French and international trade-union solidarity demonstrations 26th of June!
June 22, 2009 — Since June 13, the day following the fixed presidential election, millions of Iranians descended into the streets with cries of “Down with the dictatorship!”. The ferocious oppression has already caused tens if not hundreds of deaths. The young people, women and the residents of the popular quarters who launched the demonstrations have now been joined by the trade union movement.
The union of bus workers declared solidarity, while asserting: “As long as the principle of freedom of organisation and of democracy is not be applied, all talk of the social liberation and the rights of the workers will be only a joke”. The workers of Iran Khodro, the first car manufacturer in the country (with 60,000 employees), engaged in a strike while adding their demands for salary increases and the right to strike to the demands raised in the streets.
For democratic liberties and the demands of the working world
The hope of Iranian society is to lift the iron machine (stifling system) of the Mullahs and for an end to the daily oppression of the youth and women who fight for their rights, which combines more and more with the demands of the workers who, in Iran also, refuse to pay for the economic crisis. As the idea of a general strike spreads, the possessing classes and the profiteers begin to dread the ghost of a new revolution.
The criminal demagoguery of Ahmadinejad and of his guardian, the “supreme guide” Khamenei, who claim to represent the “disinherited” while counterposing themselves to the imperialism of the western powers, must not fool people. But Moussavi, the “reformer” … was the prime minister of the Islamic Republic between 1981 and 1989, the era in which tens of thousands of opponents, in particular campaigners for the workers and the left, for the rights of the women and national minorities, were slaughtered in the prison system.
Facing growing economical difficulties, the corruption and nepotism became more and more unbearable, which exacerbated the competition between rivals clans of the elite, opening a crisis at the top of the state. The workers and the people rushed into the gap. And even a non-democratic election has escaped [the elite's] total control.
Their fight is the ours!
It is to the women, the workers, the youth and all the demonstrators who defy repression while not hesitating to risk their lives, that goes all our support.
On June 26, in the framework of the international day of solidarity with the workers of Iran, the trade union organisations of France will participate in a gathering in front of the Iranian embassy in Paris, in particular to demand the release of the workers imprisoned for expressing themselves on May 1 in Tehran.
The New Anti-Capitalist Party (NPA), which naturally supports this gathering, calls for the development in the businesses, city and neighbourhoods of the maximum of initiatives in solidarity with the fight of the Iranian people, for the overthrow of the dictatorship, for liberty and the rights of the workers.
